AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE OF CITRUS GROWERS OF CHIOS (A.C.C.G. of CHIOS)
A.C.C.G. of Chios that enumerates 400 members, was founded in 1986, aiming at the transformation of citrus fruits for the production of juices and refreshments, the standardisation and the marketing. A.C.C.G. of Chios bought the factory from E.V.E.K. S.A. which was founded in 1963 by Mr Handris. A.C.C.G. of Chios factory after enough modernization has today two separate units of production: the transformation of citrus fruits – juice extraction and the bottling of refreshments and sugar added juices. The quality of produced juice is owed initially to the way of collection (by hand) and receipt (in boxes of 20 kg) as well as in the way of juice extraction of fruits (in FMC machinery). The pasteurisation and the condensation of juice take place in Taste evaporator FMC. During this process essential oils are isolated which are unique in quality and coveted in countries of European Union. Moreover, certified juices and essential oils of organic culture are produced in the same way. The concentrated juice constitutes a most excellent raw material for the production of juices and refreshments. In the modern line of bottling sugar added juices and refreshments with or without carbonic are produced with the commercial name "Kampos". The products, except for the market of Chios, are also exported and they are already known in a lot of parts of Greece.

Kampos is a verdurous from the "golden apples of Esperides" region, southernly of the city of Chios. In the "perivolia" (plots with citrus trees) that are protected by tall stone walls made of coloured carved porous stone from the neighbouring village Thymiana, mansions that belonged to reputed families of the past are built, and orange, mandarin, lemon and bitter orange trees are cultivated. Underground waters through a system of wells with the help of elaborated "maganos" (round wheel on top of wells) irrigated the citrus fruits.

THE CITRUS FRUITS of CHIOS: The pleasant and unique flavour of citrus fruits but mainly their perfume gave Chios the characterization "Myrovolos" (fragrant). The quality and the separate characteristics of citrus fruits are owed mainly to the microclimate of region (mild winters with little rainfall, cool summertimes with etesian winds and bright sunlight) and incidentally to the persons that cultivate them with care. Chios citrus fruits were famous in the markets of Eastern Europe for their quality, where a lot of exports by steamboats were held. The oranges and mandarins of Chios were known with the name of " Chios’ Oranges" or " Chios’ Mandarins " long before the term "name of origin" acquired his current significance.
